Where it makes sense, I also talk to a handful of your clients. Not to gather testimonials but to hear how they describe your work in their own words. Because the language your best clients use to talk about you is almost always sharper than anything you'd come up with on your own.
I review everything before we meet. I'm already looking for patterns and disconnects. So when we kick off our strategy session, we're not starting from scratch. We're starting from somewhere real.
